There are no cracks or chips in any of the main sections, there is an hairline crack in the end cap (stopper), which also has a few dents. The neck has the serial number 88635, which dates it late 1920’s. It has its original Grover geared tuners and is straight with no fret or fingerboard wear. The pot comes from a John Alvey Turner mandolin banjo, circa 1930’s, which was probably made for them by J.G. Abbott. It is all original and complete. They fit together very well.
Overall a great playing banjo with a VERY good tone. Comes with a new hard case.

The repair is solid and guaranteed to hold, i can say this as i have done the repair myself. I have repaired many with the same problem. The problem being they are loaded with forklift trucks in transit, causing the neck to snap at the heel. I have never had one returned.
Note this is collection only, you can call in and inspect before you make a decision.

Here is a Wheatstone miniature english concertina, it is all original, complete with its case. It is in concert pitch and in good tuning, although there is some slight valve ‘flutter’ on the F#. The valves and tuning could be improved.

The serial # = 31762. Which dates it – 20th November 1927.
The overall condition is very good. There is a white mark on one end of the bellows, possibly the remnants of a sticker, and there is one screw missing from an endplate, NOT an endplate bolt.
Measurements = end width across the flats – 70mm. Whole length (closed) – 100mm. Weight without case = 252g.

Here is a Ranco italian made piano accordion, dating from the 1930’s. It has the number 159 pencilled inside.
It is 4 voice musette tuned, with 5 voice 120 bass.
This came from the son of a professional accordion repairer, a valued customer, now sadly departed. His passion was accordions, particularly Rancos. This one was his favourite (i had bought 2 other Rancos from him).
It has replacement bellows (probably Hohner), and a few replacement reeds. The tuning is good. All the reed valves are good. It has 2 couplers on the end of the fingerboard. The couplers on the grille have been removed, hence the 2 oval holes. This was often done as they get in the way when playing.
This is a ‘work’ instrument, and is by no means in perfect condition, it has been played a lot. Saying that, it still plays very well, with the classic Ranco sound. Ranco were considered to be one of, if not the best, accordion makers in Italy.
It has its original, battered case, which has a piece missing from the lid.

Here is a Lachenal 40 button anglo concertina in Bb + F.
Note that this concertina is fresh to the market, it being with its previous owner the last 60 years.
The serial number is 162600, which i believe makes it from the 1920’s. All the notes are sounding, there is some minor valve flutter to some of the very low notes. It has unusual handles which are metal, the bellows papers have a L stamped in a circle, and it has the legend SA where the label would usually be. I have not seen these traits on a Lachenal before. Obviously the SA points to it being especially made for the Salvation Army. It also has a fitting on the left side for a music holder.
It has 6 fold bellows and is in concert pitch with steel reeds. The compression isn’t bad, neither is the tuning, and it can be played as is. But it would benefit with new pads/valves, and a fine tune.
It has an interesting ink stamp on one of the reed pans which states, ’16 feb 1924 – TUNED AND REPAIRED BY ENVOY WORTHINGTON – CONCERTINA MAKER AND REPAIR – 113 HILL TOP (LOW MOOR?) – BRADFORD YORKSHIRE’.

Here are a pair of rare, unusual maracas. They are a ‘proper’ instrument, and have different tones to each one, which complement each other. They have written on them, “Calahosh (calabosh?) Rhumba Trinidad BW9”, under the lacquer finish. Shame one is missing its “voodoo” head, but there we are.
Measurements = 12″ x 4″.

Here is a very rare early snare drum. It is a single head design, with a top snare. I am not sure if it is complete, the tension bolts look like they are in the wrong place, but do not fit the unused holes in the top rim. The bottom rim is fixed (glued), and looks like it always has been. The very worn transfer label reads ” W.C RODWELL & Co LTD – CONSETRUM (TRADE MARK)”. Around the middle of the drum in the label, i think it says “BARROW IN FURNESS”.
This is an highly unusual snare drum.

I doubt you will ever see another for sale.
